Our aim is to have trained counsellors will be onsite 24/7 with easy access for transport personnel. Trans-Help has found over the last three years that for a driver to obtain counselling is near impossible, due to their work schedule. The facility will allow them to have a session mid stream of their work schedule and will avoid the employee requiring time off work.
Trans-Help has been successful in providing a level of counselling that has proven to be successful, with many cases being picked up following the failure of psychologists and psychiatrist failing to deliver a resolve, finding this is partially because of the lack of understanding of the transport industry.
Our approach has been successful, as our counsellors have the knowledge and understanding that is not in the ‘text books’. We have numerous cases where our method has resulted in drivers returning to the workplace sooner. We also have drivers being forced back to work and know of three cases that have resulted in severe depression and potential suicides.
A major concern is the lack of debriefing, which is a major contributor to post traumatic stress.
We have a room specifically set aside for counselling sessions, which is more of a lounge style atmosphere rather than the 'counselling room', with a door leading outside where the client can feel comfortable and at ease with the friendly environment.
