In 2006
the Board of Directors of Trucks in Action agreed
to partner the Trans-Help Foundation in their plight to assist
transport drivers and their families. To be recognised and supported
by Trucks In Action is a huge milestone for the THF.
Trucks In Action have pledged the gate takings for their 2008 event
to the Trans-Help Foundation, they are also supporting the THF in
establishing a Men's Health Marquee at
Trucks In Action 2008. It is their commitment that will
assist us to assist many more drivers and families.
The
Trans-Help Foundation believes that the "Men's Health
Marquee" is a unique way to combat many of the medical
issues out there on the road that go unaddressed and unchecked
because of drivers full schedules.
We are
giving Truckies the opportunity to take action - With better health,
better lifestyles can be achieved.
Part of our Aussie spirit in this
country was born on our highways with truck drivers and the
transport industry in general at the forefront exercising the
mateship that started back in the days of Cobb & Co.
We at Trans-Help would like to ensure
that spirit lives on,
the typical strength of character for which truckies are well renown
is they are strong people, and will go to extreme lengths to prove
it, they hide their feelings, yet they are really as soft as teddy
bears, reluctant to engage in any form of health check such as
Diabetes, Cholesterol, Prostate, Depression, Impaired Sight and
Hearing etc and reluctant to pursue help for traumatic experience he
and or his family may have suffered due to a whole host of reasons.
Women play a very important role in
the development of today’s road transport and associated industries,
mothers, wives, the unpaid secretary’s who work all day then at home
start all over again with other duties.
The worrying times they must endure
with sons, husbands, and brothers always on the road and never
finding time to have regular health checks, despite being constantly
urged to do so by these understanding women.
These women at night, when the kids
are in bed are alone as all truckies wives experience, it leaves
time for a lot of thought about their husband’s choice of career,
and their weekend marriage.
The first year is the hardest
adjusting to this way of life, never knowing when the phone will
ring and tired of sitting at home waiting for it, having surprised
drop ins and unexpected goodbyes, are just a few things a truckies
wife endures, let alone the worry of the general health of the
family including her own. We need to change this by creating
awareness of how important it is to make time for the simple tests
needed to clear their health and enjoy a better life.
The Mens Health Marquee
will provide information from Prostate & Cancer Foundation
Australia, Cholesterol, Diabetes Australia, Beyond Blue “Depression”
Vision Australia and accredited qualified nurses will be attending
to weighing, blood pressure etc under the one roof of our well
organised health marquise assisting us to encourage those men and
women who find it difficult and or embarrassing to undergo some of
these simple yearly medical tests.
About Trucks in
Action
Over the past 25 years Trucks In Action, which runs in conjunction
with the Civil Works Expo has developed a strong reputation as a key
Australian road transport event.
Feedback from exhibitors and road transport
operators have highlighted that Trucks In Action provides the
opportunity to maintain and develop new contacts, generate sales and
leads, launch new products and highlight industry changes.
"Trucks In Action will be the key Australian road
transport trade event for 2008. I was involved in the first Trucks
In Action in 1981 and have seen the event grow into a major road
transport event and the only working truck show to be held in the
Southern Hemisphere. Trucks In Action showcases the comprehensive
range of road transport equipment and services available in the
Australian marketplace today"
